Herb of the Year -- June

Peppers Capsicum is the 2016 Herb of the YearTM

Every year since 1995, the International Herb Association has chosen an Herb of the Year to highlight. IHA Long-standing member, Chuck Voigt, who has been involved in the selection process for many years explains, "The Horticultural Committee evaluates possible choices based on them being outstanding in at least two of the three major categories: medicinal, culinary, or decorative". herb societies, groups and organization from around the world work together to educate the public about these important  herbs throughout the year. Throught 2016, CaJohns will select a different pepper to highlight and will have special pricing on select product feature in these peppers..

June 2016: Featured Chili - Fatalii Chile 125,000-325,000 SHIU

The Fatalii Pepper is a chile from Central South Africa commonly known as “the devils tongue”. Fatalii plants grow on average to about 2', but can grow as tall as 4'. Fatalii Peppers are green when young and turn a bright yellow as they mature with fruits around 3" long and tapers to a point The most common variety matures to bright yellow where as the less common are red, chocolate and white . Fatalii's thrive in full sun and do very well in pots.

It’s definitely one of the hottest peppers in the world. With the heat level of a habanero, the fatalii’s heat is felt instantly, unlike the habanero whose heat sneaks up on you. There’s a unique citrusy flavor that’s naturally flavorful. One of the more citrusy chilies you’ll come across. The flavor is fruity with a hint of lemon and lime and sometimes peach.
